February has long been known as the month of romance, and throughout our country loved ones often exchange cards, gifts, candy and flowers as a means of expressing their love. February 14th however, when we celebrate the holiday known as Valentine’s Day, is when most of these gifts and expressions of our love are exchanged. But how did this mysterious tradition begin?

The holiday is both a Christian and ancient Roman tradition that is indeed very mysterious. The original Valentine’s day can be traced back to the Catholic Church which began a feast day, said to be in honor of its patron saint named Valentinus or Valentine. But how St. Valentine became associated with this lovers holiday has long been a matter of debate, and there are many legendary stories explaining the connection.

One of the most popular stories takes place during the third century in Rome. The ruling Emperor Claudius II had decided single men made better soldiers, and outlawed marriage so he could build a better crop of soldiers. A young priest by the name of Valentine defied the decree, and continued to marry young lovers in secret, and when Claudius discovered this he ordered that Valentine be put to death.

Legend does credit Valentine with actually sending the first valentine. The story claims he had fallen in love with a young women, who had been visiting him while he was in prison. It is alleged that he sent her a letter which he signed “From Your Valentine”.

Another story suggests that while attempting to help Christians escape from the deplorable Roman prisons, where they were often tortured and beaten, he was killed.

We will never know the full truth about the Valentine legends, although there is no doubt about his heroic and romantic appeal. Valentine was definitely one of the most popular saints in England and France during the middle ages.

It wasn’t until the 19th century when British settlers arrived that Valentine’s Day was was introduced to North America. Today, according to (Hallmark Research) 192 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually. This is in addition to the millions of flowers, boxes of candy and assorted gifts exchanged by lovers on this day. The day has come to be associated with the greeting “Happy Valentine’s Day”

Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th every year. It gives you the opportunity to show a friend or lover, how much you care, by giving them a gift of love and sharing this lovely tradition with them.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner - just about a month away! Are you still wondering what gifts to pick up for your boyfriend? Well, you are not alone. Some of my women friends find figuring out what men want are tough and to get something for their boyfriend is even tougher. They are not fussy, just that every woman wants to make their man feel really special and naturally, the Valentine’s gift has to be unique and can help her convey her feelings for him.

I am often approached by friends during this time of the year for advice on a boyfriend’s gift…Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year for many lovers, I guess. Or perhaps, women are comparatively more romantic than men and therefore this special day is more important to women than to men.

Regardless, I always have one thing to share with my friends, that is, although Valentine’s Day is about love and a reminder to celebrate with their sweetheart, it is not the only time to express their love and positive feelings for their boyfriends.

Rather, every day is an opportunity to share presence with their beloved, express their feelings and renew the bond of love they share together. I don’t encourage splurging on your sweetheart, it is better to spend within your means. With that in mind, here are some ideas for boyfriend gift on Valentine’s Day:

Personalized boyfriend gifts make good gifts for your special man on Valentine’s Day. You don’t need to go to the extent of renting a plane and have your boyfriend’s name written and encased in a heart. Take a moment to brainstorm things your boyfriend usually uses and which you can personalize, for example, you can engrave your boyfriend’s name on a pen. Just imagine the smile on his face whenever he uses the pen, isn’t it sweet having you always on his mind?

Another creative and unique idea to touch your boyfriend’s heart is to personalize a special scrapbook with both you and his pictures from the day you first met and things you have done together in your daily lives. You can add some thought and feelings in the scrapbook. The scrapbook is a symbol of your love and memories that you both shared together. Isn’t it meaningful?

Finally, the old saying -the way to your lover’s heart is his stomach. Food is an expression of affection. Your boyfriend and you may eat your way to ecstasy with chocolate and oysters which claims to be aphrodisiac. Try concocting a personalize dish for him or even a simple dish. It will inevitably melt his heart. Don’t forget the romantic music as it can enhance the overall ambiance.

The above ideas and suggestions will be a guide to creating a romantic and sweet loving Valentine celebration for you and your boyfriend. It need not be expensive or luxurious. It is really the thoughts that count and only your lover will understand. I hope this article have served its purpose in helping you to decide on a Valentine gift for your boyfriend.

Wishing both of you a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Love for you from miles away

Not having your beloved around specially on the worldly known date may make you feel sad and sometimes depressed as well. When your friends and pals around are planning the ensuing Valentine’s Day party with their partners you may feel crushing your head simply because you are feeling horribly lonely and aloof, then rely on the sole fact that you are also a lucky child of St. Valentine and will be getting your gift of Magi right on the day of Valentine.

Many people celebrated lonely Valentine’s Days without their beloved around and they have choose many striking ideas not to miss their sweethearts as much as really they are. A lady spend her lonely Valentine’s Day wearing the shirt of her boyfriend and did not put it off until the last trace of the odor remains there. Another man spend his lone day cooking the cookies his sweetheart loved and at the end of the day ate them himself tenderly assuming that her beloved would have enjoyed them the same way. Trust is the base of any love relationship.

Trust factor is the key of the bonding between family members, friends, husband and wife and mostly for a couple. When one is cherishing a love relationship he or she should never forget that it is all about missing, loving, caring and pampering your soul mate. Love is the biggest force to connect the minds together and days long traditions to send one’s love message to the beloved in a distant place is always been practiced with great care and tenderness.

Such as sending a love letter and putting it to the mouth of pet pigeon is one of the famous instances. Another one was very popular during the age of adventure and voyages across the seas was writing a love note and putting it inside the bottles. In some cases these tricks often worked with huge success.

Time has changed. Now a days the processes to send Love Letters and Love Messages to sweethearts are more easy and more certain in case of delivery status. There are few ways which makes your love smile on the Valentine’s Day in spite of the uncrossable distance between yourselves.

STEP 1: Send a bouquet of flowers to your lover’s workplace (you’ll get bonus points for the public display of your affection).

STEP 2: E-mail your mate an electronic valentine.

STEP 3: Fax a photocopy of candy hearts with endearing messages such as “Miss You” or “U R Hot”.

STEP 4: FedEx or mail a package of love. Include chocolate, candy hearts, a recent photograph of the two of you that your lover has never seen, a poem you wrote yourself (or a copy of an Cummings poem, for example, if you’re not the romance-writer type), a “homemade” tape including songs that put you both in the mood.

STEP 5: Arrange for a singing Valentine to surprise your sweetie at work.

STEP 6: Plan a wakeup call for Valentine’s morning, ensuring that the first words your lover hears on Valentine’s Day are either “I love you,” or “I had a dream about you last night…”

STEP 7: Spend the evening writing a love letter or putting together a Valentine’s scrap book to send to your lover the following day.

STEP 8: Schedule a phone date toward the end of the evening, perhaps sending your valentine some sensuous bath oils and a bottle of champagne ahead of time to coincide with the call. Topics of conversation? Use your imagination.

When your partner is not around on Valentine’s Day it’s about the sincere, loving connection between two people, and the celebration of that connection from miles away. It’s a very unique, personal tie between you two. Don’t let marketers convince you that only their way is the right way, and that you must be together.

You can be just as close, and just as in love, and just as connected, even if your darling happens to be away from you for this day. So remember the tune that you perhaps sang while leaving your beloved … ” kiss me and smile for me tell me that you wait for me hold me like you never let me go…”

And then raise a toast to the special love which is yours!

Prepare a Romantic Dinner At Home For Valentine’s Day

Remember those pre-child days when you would go out to a fancy restaurant or spend the weekend at a romantic get-away to celebrate Valentine’s Day? That may not be an option this year, but you can still enjoy a romantic dinner with your spouse. Here are a few ideas on how you can easily create a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner at home.

Creating The Menu
This is the perfect time for some “Grown-up” food. Cook a separate dinner for the kids or order in some pizza. Let the kids eat an early dinner and then send them off to play, or watch a movie while the two of you enjoy your meal. If your children are really young, you may want to put them to bed before you sit down for your Valentine’s Day dinner.

Cooking a restaurant inspired meal doesn’t have to be complicated. Pick up some mini-quiches in your grocers frozen food section and bake them up as an appetizer. For a first course pick up a can of gourmet style soup that you just need to heat up. Garnish with a dollop of sour cream and some fresh herbs for visual appeal.

Choose a main dish that you can prepare ahead of time, so you can enjoy the evening. Good choices are baked salmon or chicken. Just place either one in a baking dish, add whichever marinade you prefer and refrigerate. When you are ready just bake it until it’s done. Serve with mixed greens and fancy store-bought vinaigrette. Grab French bread, or fix some wild rice.

Dessert could be anything from cheesecake with fresh fruit, to chocolate dipped strawberries to chocolate mouse that you can make ahead and refrigerate. Or serve assorted cheeses with a nice glass of red wine.

Setting The Scene
Set the table with a tablecloth, cloth napkins and candles. Take out your good china and crystal. Since dinner will be just for the two of you, you don’t have to worry about damaging any of your special tableware. Now is the perfect time to enjoy all these fancy goodies you received as wedding gifts.

Take the time to dress up, and do your hair and makeup. I feel sure you spouse will appreciate it and you will feel like you are actually going out. For even more fun get ready in separate rooms and ask your date to come pick you up.

Turn down the lights and light the candles. Play some soft, romantic music, or some songs that have special meaning for the two of you. You never know, with the right music, your romantic Valentine’s Day dinner may end with some slow dancing in your dinning room.

Staying in doesn’t mean you can’t have a wonderful romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. You never know, this may turn out to be the most romantic Valentine’s date yet.
